Yoga Journey — Through the Lens of Art and Practice
Full project on my Behance profile
This project was born from more than a decade of my own yogic journey. Yoga has been a source of grounding, transformation, and creativity in my life, and through my dedication to photography, I wanted to capture not only its physical beauty but its quiet depth.
The seed for this project was my need to answer the question from my inner world about what Yoga is for me. I spent many years next to my Yoga Teacher in tropical Kerala, India, also meditated alone in the Himalayas, or with monks in Thai temples, attended Vipassana courses all over Asia… practiced and teach Yoga in the most beautiful and peaceful natural environments.
Now, living in Belgrade, surrounded by concrete, rushing people, constant noise, and a lack of real depth in everyday experiences, I began to wonder: How can I continue my Yogic journey here, in the city? After all, what is actually Yoga? Is it learning from my teacher? Being alone in the Himalayas? Or perhaps it is finding inner peace no matter where I live, or where I move.
After almost eight years of living a nomadic life, I wanted to find a way to continue my Yogic journey in Belgrade — not only in peaceful yoga studios or parks, but in every corner of the city I now call home. I realized that I can wear what makes me feel comfortable, practice wherever I want, and dedicate my practice to what makes me feels true, not what looks advanced. Yoga is about getting to know myself each day, through dedication and love, in everything I do — or everything I simply am.
With over fifteen years behind the camera, photography has always been my way of observing life with patience and depth. Bringing this experience into the world of Yoga allowed me to merge two paths that have shaped me the most — the dedication to art and the dedication to practice.
During this project, I collaborated with Yoga instructors in Belgrade, spending time with each of them not only to present my project, but to understand their practice, their story, and the energy they bring to the mat. Together, we explored the possibility of practicing Yoga in urban settings like local market, shopping mall, on bridges, abandoned buildings, and hidden corners of the city. These unusual backdrops became a canvas for Yoga, transforming ordinary places into spaces of reflection and presence.
Through this project, I discovered that Yoga is not separate from daily life, nor reserved for sacred spaces alone. It can be practiced and lived in the middle of the city, within the rhythm of everyday life.
Alongside still photography, I created behind-the-scenes videos that document the atmosphere of these sessions: the laughter, the adjustments, the flow between the yoginis, the city, and myself as an artist.
This series is my offering — a way of sharing how Yoga continues to shape me, and how art and practice can meet in simple, real, and human ways. It is a reminder that Yoga is not only a practice on the mat, but a way of living, breathing, and creating. Through the lens, I found my own journey mirrored in others, and I hope these images invite you to pause, breathe, and feel the quiet beauty of presence.
